When I left my ex-husband I moved in with my mom and left all my belongings in the apartment I had shared with my husband.

My attorney called me to ask me to take inventory of the items in the apartment. Since we had both moved out of the apartment that we had shared I went to take inventory. Needless to say I was surprised when I arrived at the apartment to find that nothing, and I mean nothing, was left there. He had cleaned the place out. Opps, sorry……. He hadn’t taken the shower curtain.

My clothes were gone. All the furniture was gone. The area rugs were gone. The pots and pans were gone, the books and the bookshelves were gone. The TV was gone. All the dishes and utensils my mother gave me were gone. Like I said - everything was gone -except for that shower curtain.

After standing in the apartment for a few stunned minutes I turned and left and walked to my attorney’s office (her office was in my old neighborhood). When she saw me walk in her office she said “That was quick”. I immediately said “Taking inventory is easy when all that’s left is a shower curtain”.

I had nothing other than the clothes I originally took to my mother’s - oh yeah, and a shower curtain….20 years of stuff was gone.

I was depressed and angry for some time that day and then I thought I had something more important than “things” I had my freedom.
