We all have our own morning routines.  Some of us get up and do some exercise, some of us enjoy some coffee and breakfast and then off we go to get showered and dressed for our day.

When I was married I would get up and start my day by showering. The first thing I did when I looked in the mirror was to say to myself. “Tomorrow will be a better day.” I had already determined at 6 a.m. that I was going to have a bad day.  But as I was walking out the door I would say “You can always leave.”

That was my morning routine for many years and then one day it happened. The day was December 28, 1991, he was not home, I saw someone packing a bag and I saw her shutting the door of the apartment we shared.  I went to my mother’s house unannounced.

I don’t know who the Nancy was who left that day, it was like I was watching a movie or as someone recently said it was like an out of body experience.  I will be forever grateful to that Nancy who found the courage to leave and begin the journey to creating a new life.

It was not an easy journey but I did it!

December 28, 1991 was my new day!
