“The Bride of Frankenstein” was a 1935 horror movie starring Boris Karloff as Frankenstein and Elsa Lancaster as his monster bride. Like all movies of that time it was in black and white which always looked dank and grey to me.

Since this was a horror film it was always night and no glimmer of light other than what I call “spooky light”, the kind meant to scare you.  Just for the record I hated that movie. It was the first horror movie I was forced to watch and the last one I have ever seen.

Like I said I was forced to watch this movie as a child.  My mom and dad both worked and my sisters and I were left in the care of an aunt, one of my mother’s sisters.  The truth is I never liked being at my aunt’s house - but that’s a story for another day.

Aunt Carolyn had 4 children, my cousins, who are all older than me, 3 boys and a girl.  It was a rainy Saturday and we were stuck in the house and my aunt put on the television set to entertain us.  One of my cousins insisted we watch “The Bride of Frankenstein”. It was his home so that’s we watched.

I must have been around 7 years old and to say the least, the movie scared the stuffing out of me.  And to make matters worse my cousin saw that I was scared and taunted me throughout the movie. The more frightened I became the more he taunted and to make it worse the other kids began taunting me too.  Kids are kids so I don’t blame him or my other cousins but when my mom came to pick us up I was ready to bolt out of their house.

I guess that movie made a real impact on me as I woke up screaming from a nightmare about it that night. I remembered this incident when “The Bride of Frankenstein” was on TV the other night.

Actually, it’s really quite funny!
