I paid my ex-husband. We had been battling for almost 2 years primarily because he did not want a divorce.

I had reached the end of my rope one day and called my attorney and said “I no longer care that he does not want a divorce I just want nothing to do with him and further if I see him on the street I will not acknowledge him…l will pass him like he does not exist.”

Well she must have contacted his attorney because a few days later she called me and said my husband agreed to a divorce provided I give him a certain amount of money in cash. That’s right cash no check!

I told her it was a done deal and went to the bank and got the “cash”.

I arrived at my attorney’s office that same day and was escorted into the conference room where my husband and his attorney were waiting for me. I handed the bag of cash to my attorney who counted it, he then handed it to my husband’s attorney who also counted it. There was the formality of signing notarized statements attesting to the fact the cash was the correct amount. The money was handed to my husband and he left the conference room with his attorney.

At the advice of my attorney he said I should wait about ½ hour before I left to be sure it was “clear”.

I also had to pay his attorney fees but I was able to do that with a check.

I was broke but I was free!

I will tell you more about how I battled my way to financial self-sufficiency another day.
